A long time in the light [Open]

Post by Brutus Demetriou on Mon Apr 08, 2013 4:11 am

"It's been a long time, Shinrei." The voice echoed off the peaks for a long time before fading away, the tone wistful, the voice itself very, very deep, as though there were a couple of rocks grinding against one another to produce the greeting. The man that issued the proclamation stood at the edge of a bluff very, very high in the mountains, looking down at the scattered outskirts of a country he hadn't been in properly since he escaped to the mountains after his sons death. The man was a very impressive 8' tall, with some few added inches. The sight of him, like a bronzed god standing on the edge of a cliff, as though surveying his domain would make many a person stare if there was anyone to see anything, as he wore very little save a voluminous kilt and some anklets. His feet were bare, yet like the rest of him didn't seem bothered by the volumes of snow puddled around him, cold as it was.

Volumes of long black hair recently washed in a snowbank flowed out behind him, barely stirring in the small amount of wind as he stood at the edge of oblivion and mused on his life. His period of mourning was over, it was time to return to the land of darkness, from the land of light. The sun never seemed to set up here, it was too far north. There was nowhere to hide, all of your secrets were laid bare to the relentless glare of the sun. It was soothing. Nothing snuck up on you, and you were forced to realize the foolishness of hiding from your shame.

Very few people ventured up to the tops of the mountains, it was uncomfortable for those with things to hide. Those few that did come were easy to avoid, they didn't expect a bear the size of a small truck to be the same color as the snow, and weren't looking for a bear in the first place, and so often missed him even as he napped upon the snow, in plain view. If anyone were to come upon him now however, he would be easy to spot. His body was nut brown despite so much time in an environment more likely to turn him blue, because he'd spent the vast majority of the time covered in a snow white coat. That time was over now, and it was time to rediscover the joys of speech, the above being the first sentence he'd spoken in a very long time, aloud.

Re: A long time in the light [Open]

Post by Yubie Zeta on Mon Apr 08, 2013 4:56 am

Tired and annoyed, Yubie somehow found herself on the higher points of the Glacierian Mountains in search of an awkward report of some kind of book reading, people disturbing bear. In truth, Yubie didn't actually intend to find anything - she just wanted a good enough reason for Dewdrop and the others to give her some time alone, as her latest battle with a crazed necromancer in the Hidden Oasis had left her injured, drained, and short of patience. Glaring at the bandages left over from the battle, Yubie continued to stumble about in the ice and snow, feeling that even though the cold wasn't comforting, it had a strange way of numbing the pain through her coat. Every now and then, she allowed the wind to pull her hands away from her sides, closing her eyes and taking in the sensation of thick snowflakes dotting her arms. Loneliness used to plague her and leave her feeling better, but by now, she'd learned that solitude could be pleasant when allotted in healthy doses.

"Do you hate me now? You know what I did to you..."

Yubie forced herself not to get too depressed and start crying in the middle of frozen territory; the last thing she wanted was to explain why her eyes were frozen shut to the doctors. She still found herself angered that she still couldn't figure out how to fix Ikozu after so many years, and part of her wondered if the only release from her cousin's pain was to find a way to force the soul out of the stuffed animal and make it depart. Still, she didn't even know how to make the soul release its lock on the plush bunny, let alone have the soul find peace and disperse to wherever the souls went to after they'd departed. She didn't have too long to bicker and mumble to herself, though, as something very large and brown caught her eye.

"Are you kidding me? Am I really going to find a bear, wearing a pair of glasses, reading a book? I'll bet it's a rock. What do these people think I am? The police? I must be spoiling some of them too much..."

Determined to prove to herself once and for all that the sight before her was nothing more than a rock, Yubie angrily trudged towards the large mass, grumbling and throwing tiny punches in the air as she moved. The closer she came, the more she approached faster, as the sight began to resemble a bear more and more, and she found herself frustrated that the situation could be real. No sooner did she close her eyes and convince herself that her mind was playing tricks on her did she reopen them to find that the large brown mass had moved. At this point, she was running towards it, and didn't come to a halt until the giant creature before her became apparent, her eyes staring up towards the creature's face in surprise and wonder. She appeared tiny and frail next to the creature, even with the addition of a giant coat and gloves; her lack of speech only made the situation more awkward, and she wondered if the creature had seen or noticed her during her ranting.

Ah. There was a girl there, at his feet. She was staring up at him in surprise, her tiny body very much out of place in this wasteland of white, the black of her clothing standing out almost as much as his sheer bulk, just for the color. He gazed back down at her, unperturbed by her arrival having watched her approach. She was a child, just a bit larger than his Saeran had been, her hair black rather than white, but Purple highlights still in her clothes. She was not what he had been expecting his first human to be.

Very, very slowly, he lowered himself until he was crouching on his haunches, face more or less level with the young girls', within a foot or so. He continued to look into her eyes, not sparing a glance for the rest of her, he'd seen enough of that as she ran to him. His hand came up, almost of its own accord, though he did want it to, to touch her arm gently. He didn't want to startle the fragile looking creature, but couldn't help the urge. It was a sign, for the first living person him to have seen at the end of his hibernation to be a child. His hand was quite large, two or three times the size of her own, but it moved slowly, gently, a precision in the movements belied by the large frame that accompanied them.

He did not speak.

Yubie didn't move an inch from her spot, and as her mouth hung open, it became apparent that she'd halted her breathing for a moment due to being in shock from the creature's reaction to her approach. She didn't know why she was surprised; Yubie had seen a variety of strange things in her short life, yet for the man to reach out to touch her in such a gentle manner seemed even more confusing than most of what she'd learned of the world. In fact, the being didn't seem dangerous and hateful - despite its appearance, it moved with grace and caution, so much so that young girl even allowed the creature to touch her arm without fighting the movement.

Realizing that not moving or speaking probably only made things stranger, Yubie fought to regain composure, resisting the urge to remain startled and shocked, even fleeing from what seemed to be something benevolent. The reasons for why something gentle and quiet would startle her had escaped Yubie's mind, as she'd remained calm even while people died around her. Regardless, not a word had been exchanged between the two, and that was something she decided she had to change at least to better understand what was happening, why the man had touched her arm, and what he was doing out in the middle of the cold.

"...why are you here?"

She let him touch her, and indeed even seemed okay with it, not stiffening up or making a negative noise in reaction, and he left his hand there, just a few fingers barely brushing her arm as they looked at each other. After a short while, she spoke a few words, asking a question about his presence so far up in the mountains. His voice rusty from disuse, and as deep as can be, he replied shortly, still uncomfortable with the idea of speech. "My penance. What of you?" He probably could have said that in a shorter manner, but some vestige of a previous life remained to make him speak in a manner more befitting a rational human being than an animal, despite his sometime shape.

After speaking, his hand came down, off of her arm and he offered it to her. Not in a hand shake, that was not something he was prepared to do, but flat, palm up in front of her, as if offering her something or perhaps asking for her own hand. His method of communication was one heavily based on gesture while a bear, and that was still present, with so little human interaction to change anything despite his own form change. His breath was misting in the air, yet his naked chest did not seem to be cold, there was no evidence of the goosebumps a normal person would have in such cold weather.

Post by Yubie Zeta on Mon Apr 08, 2013 5:58 am

Hearing his voice unfortunately didn't lessen Yubie's shock, as the man spoke with a deep voice, and while his response was short, it was that of a highly educated individual. Confused, her brows furrowed and she tried to understand what the man had meant by his statement. She didn't understand why one would head all the way out here for punishment, nor why he had to endure a punishment; from her experience, most people enjoyed evading punishment, and she was often encouraged to seek out such individuals to enforce judgement, rather than seeing them punish themselves. From what she'd observed so far, the man seemed to be gentle and even hinted at having a respectful personality. She would have to inquire further on the matter before she truly understood what had happened.

"I believe I was sent here in search of a rather large bear that had startled a small handful of hikers and military personnel. Not exactly a dire situation, spare the reports on the size of the bear."

Feeling that he'd moved his arm, and now held his hand before her, she looked at the man's hand in confusion for a few moments, once again ceasing her speech. She didn't quite understand, but again, did not want to seem rude just yet, so she very slowly moved her own hand towards the man's hand. Pausing for a moment and freezing in place again, Yubie looked back up into the man's eyes to see if she'd made the wrong move or had mistaken the sign, then finally she placed her own small hand on top of his hand, her eyes scanning the man in case he made any sudden movement or showed signs of being unhappy. Vapor from her own mouth suggested that her breathing was more rapid than normal, and she wondered how it was that the man didn't show any signs of being cold, as even the feeling of the man's hand suggested that his body temperature wasn't far from normal.

"Why must you suffer penance? Wait - forgive me... I have no place to ask a question like that yet. Who... who are you?"

When she put her tiny little hand in his, he smiled. She'd done the right thing. He was careful, as he smiled, not to show teeth. Teeth were usually a threatening gesture, and he didn't want to scare the little girl. He gently closed his fingers around her hand for a moment, gently clasping her wrist, before letting go and putting his hand on his knee, mirroring the other hand, on his other leg. He lowered himself, kneeling in one place for so long would get uncomfortable and give cramps if he sustained it for too long, and sat on his rear end in the snow, crossing his legs in front of him and resting his hands on his calves.

"Ah. Apologies. I am that bear."
His roars from his waking stages must have startled some people hiking on the other side of one of the peaks, where he couldn't see them and realize it was a bad idea. Luckily, he hadn't started roaring until the very end of his stay up in the mountains, or his attempt at a retreat from civilization might not have lasted that long. "My name is Brutus Demitriou. What is your name, little one?" It was odd that the country would send a young girl out after a bear sighting, but people were getting stronger at far younger, these days. Jinsei had been as well.

Re: A long time in the light [Open]

Post by Yubie Zeta on Mon Apr 08, 2013 6:43 am

Seeing the man smile made Yubie smile, and she didn't resist allowing the man to hold her hand for a small moment. She waited patiently for the man's response, watching him adjust and move until he was comfortable again; it made sense to her that stooping so low had to at least be irritating if exercised too long. A look of confusion spread on her face once more when he mentioned that he was the bear, and apologized for disturbing the individuals that had called for her. He then gave his own name, asking for hers in response, and she realized that this man likely had no idea who she was, even if she was to give her name to him.

"My name is Yubie. I don't think apologies are in order for the confusion, either; I had believed that citizens should be accustomed with the sight of a bear in this part of the country."

Now Yubie wondered if she'd responded to the situation too harshly, as people were still allowed to visit the country as they pleased, and the sighting of a bear shouldn't be surprising, as creatures such as that sometimes enjoyed these kinds of climates. Regardless, she found herself strangely happy and comforted that she'd come to this place and met this man; he was different from anyone else she'd met before, and a part of her wondered if she would be able to learn anything from him. At this point, she hoped that she could encourage the man to visit a more comfortable setting, and while she didn't know for certain that he wasn't dangerous to the citizens of Shinrei, Yubie decided the risk would be worth taking this time.

"You... aren't you cold? Perhaps you're accustomed to this weather, but I'd believe that you'd find a warmer setting with food to be more enjoyable. Perhaps then I can understand if such a penance is really necessary for you anymore."

Finally sounding calm and comfortable, Yubie spoke softly and adopted a friendly demeanor, hoping to make the man feel welcome. A part of her wondered if she was sensing pain from the man - as most that would actually bother to suffer for crimes, be it their own or another's, had the tendency to actually be noble people. She didn't know why he had decided to suffer alone, if that was the case, and hoped greatly that if she found out what he had punished himself for, she wouldn't have to turn against him and treat him as if he was the enemy. In her eyes, it seemed that the man deserved understanding and patience, rather than punishment; more than a little, she'd wished for the same treatment, even when she had reached the point where she would lash out at anything that moved within her general vicinity.

*puff*

Someone fell from the skies to the soft white covering on earth, not to mention cold. The person with neatly pony-tailed blonde locks pulled herself up after the fall. Still feeling a bit dizzy, the pale girl tried to keep herself standing.

Sena didn't expect she'll be in a place filled with...white ice thing. Well, yes, snow, but Sena couldn't remember what was it called, thanks to her dying brain. From Kyre, she was about to head to Alteria, but she kept on riding the wrong vehicles until she was dropped off by some aerial craft in this place. Good thing the aircraft provided thick clothings...oh wait, was that really a public transportation or she happened to subscribe ride on a transport for extreme hobbies?

She stood there while trying to recover from the fall. As her dizziness subsides, she found herself a few meters away from a young girl and a tall, huge man. The girl looked like a dwarf as she stood by the man...and Sena quickly thought the man was a.... pedobear. "Oh boy, should I just stand here and watch the kid being molested?!" Sena thought aloud, not actually knowing she was already thinking aloud.

Listening to the girl was soothing, Brutus decided. It was fortuitous that his first contact was someone so small that appeared so nonthreatening, otherwise first contact may have been unpleasant with a quick reversion to his bestial nature. In reply to her questions about his comfort, his smile grew slightly and he spoke "food would be welcome, rabbits get boring after a while. Warmth is irrelevant, this isn't that cold for me as you've noticed."

He was going to continue, when there was a puff of air and a thud as something thudded into a snowbank off to the side suddenly. His head whipped to the side and he lunged between the sound and the little girl protectively, ending on all fours with teeth bared in a snarl and muscles tense. Her words, spoken before he moved but only processes afterwards caused a shudder to run through him, and he snarled aloud as white fur began to erupt all over his body. He seemed to grow larger as he knelt there, while the fur continued to cover him and before long there was a large white bear poised between the two women, not making aggressive movement toward the rude one, but basically shielding the smaller of the two with his bulk.

His thoughts while this was going on ranged from Who dares! to Well, she probably gets what I meant by bear now. He was capable of coherent thought, but still steaming mad at the new woman who dared to make such a disgusting assumption.

Yubie nodded when Brutus mentioned that eating little other than rabbits was boring, as while she rarely had to eat rabbits herself, she understood that little variety was unpleasant from her own experiences of having to live off of little more than random plants and berries. She listened patiently, and towards the end of his statement, it appeared as if she was going to lead him to a more comfortable area that was well equipped to serve both their desires, but froze in place when she heard the sound of a body impacting snow, and turned to glare with menace at what had spoken such a rude statement; the last thing Yubie wanted to do at this point was to make attempts to convince the man that he'd be welcome in the country, only to have him shunned by the first spectator.

Prepared to handle the situation alone, she fingered Spite and prepared to make a standoff with what could possibly be an attacker, as Shinrei had already had enough encounters from terrorists to know that anything could lead to trouble, but halted once again when she noticed Brutus's powerful display in bear form. Surprised that she'd met a kind of shapeshifter, Yubie kept quiet for longer than she usually would have, and spent more time to observe the woman who'd intruded on their conversation. From her clothing, Yubie didn't think she seemed well dressed to pose a threat, but that didn't mean she could exactly let her guard down. She decided to address the situation formally, attempting to dissolve the situation before it ended with an unpleasant clash of claws and flesh.

"Who are you? What do you seek, and why would you say such a thing? You don't seem to know who I am, either..."

It didn't take long when Sena realized she's a few meters near a big bear. Sena froze in surprise with her eyes almost falling out of their socket --- she was sure seconds ago she saw a man, now there's a beast. She's not in her best shape to fight someone --- or something ---- "monstrous". The young girl, who looked confident to be beside such an enormous and threatening beast, bombarded her with questions, questions that Sena's ailing head find it either hard to understand or just hard to answer.

"Uhmm...no. And I'm...I don't remember," Sena answered in a decreasing tone of voice. Sena wasn't sure if they'll understand when she said "I don't remember", or if they would believe her. "I don't remember. And what did I do? Why are you all --- address-ive?"

The woman was confused, it appeared. She didn't seem capable of forming a coherent sentence, and she claimed to be unable to remember most of her reasons for being there, including who she was. Doubtful as that last claim was, it didn't change the fact that the woman was covered in snow and did not exactly look capable of taking care of herself, at the very least quite sick in that she could not form complete sentences aloud.

He lurched into motion, now quite finished with the business of roaring. His mouth was carefully closed, no hint of fang visible as he approached the older woman in the snow. He thrust his nose toward her face, sniffing, attempting to discover what was wrong with her. He did not care what her reaction would be to having a nose the size of a dog's entire head thrust into her face, large black nostrils flaring as he breathed in. His body would provide heat, while he himself would assist in brushing off the snow if necessary. He wagged his stub of a tail at the little girl in the hope that she'd understand his non-hostile intentions.

From the woman's response, Yubie realized that this woman was either an exceptionally talented actor, or there was something genuinely wrong, and as she'd gotten lost so far from safety, she'd likely freeze to death if ignored or forsaken. While Yubie feared for the security of the people she guarded, she refused to turn away someone who'd done no serious damage that would merit such treatment. She did, however, feel almost equally surprised that the kind and gentle giant had taken bear form, and had definite intentions of guarding her, despite their meeting occurring just moments ago. Wondering to herself, Yubie figured that Brutus had already proved himself, and that it had to be a sign that she'd be so lucky as to find someone so benevolent in the icy wastelands. Perhaps this strange woman would turn out to be just as kind and caring, as she'd learned from a friend that appearances weren't always truthful.

Yubie stepped slowly from behind Brutus, keeping weary as she approached the woman, and she allowed her right arm to gently stroke Brutus's back; she was also very careful to be noisy about her footing, so as not to surprise Brutus when she touched him. She stopped before she passed Brutus's front legs, as she didn't want to ruin his attempt to protect her, or make it seem as if she didn't think he was good enough for the job. In fact, the gesture was so kind to her that she almost wanted to cry, for it had brought back the memory of a time she was walking alone in Kyré, full of anger and despair, and she happened to stumble upon an interesting scene: a mailman was pinned against a fence by a very large dog, holding a trash can lid as a shield, and the surprised owner was trying to convince the dog that the mailman was of no harm. The dog only snarled, but looked back at its owner on occasion with a funky grin and a wagging tail, almost as if it meant to say, "look at what I caught".

"You said something a little disturbing, but it doesn't seem that you're of any real threat. I apologize for my informal attitude and poor addressing of the situation. I'm not certain if you don't understand what we're saying, or the cold and that fall has impaired your train of thought. Either way, we should depart from this area; I don't think staying here will help any of us much more. Shall we find a place to rest and eat together? I know an inn... that's actually an inn this time."

The bear-man-bear started sniffing at Sena, which caused the lady to automatically --- somehow automatically --- stiffen herself. What he does was actually scaring Sena a bit, but the comfort the breath he exhaled was insurmountable at that moment because the cold weather in that part of whatever country she was in now could kill anyone. Even if he wagged his tail, which if seen by any other person would think that the bear was harmless and then would relax, Sena kept herself motionless and almost holding her breath, because she couldn't really assess what body languages mean.

The small girl then walked carefully and without any threatening or unnecessary sounds behind the bear, and then stopped on his front legs. Sena would applaud the girl for her bravery --- the bear-man-bear was intimidating indeed, and she just did that with all confidence. The young girl spoke, and Sena could hear her clearly but there were just some things she found it hard to understand.

"You said something a little disturbing, but it doesn't seem that you're of any real threat. I apologize for my informal attitude and poor addressing of the situation. I'm not certain if you don't understand what we're saying, or the cold and that fall has impaired your train of thought. I know an inn... that's actually an inn this time."

Oh yeah. Words. Sena thought threat as treat, impaired as a pair, and inn...as in. Though, she understood place, rest and eat. Sena couldn't connect the sentences, but she just nervously nodded and replied with anything she has in her head at that moment: "Uhm, okay?"

Sena thought it would be better if she would just walk or follow behind the girl, and ask her where they are, and other things so just she could trace who she was, where she was and where she was going, but that would be a little bit hard because the man who was with the girl, yes the bear-man-bear, was intimidating.

The warm presence of the little girl moved up along his flank, stopping somewhere to his side, near his front legs. Her arm rested comfortably in the long shaggy hair that covered his back, and he didn't mind it. The girl in front of him had stiffened at his nose's intrusion, but that didn't bother him as he continued to breathe on her, using one of his front paws to begin the process of moving the snow piled up around her away. He did not touch the girl herself, as that would probably freak her out unnecessarily, not to mention the possibility of knocking her back over into the snow.

Limited in his communication options, when the girl to his side spoke of an inn and the girl in front of him replied with something that could be considered an affirmative, his only response was a purr so deep it was almost, but not quite a growl. It rumbled up from his lungs and out through his mouth like a pair of boulders rubbing together to come tumbling out and smack into the ground. It stopped shortly, and Brutus continued to move snow away from the woman so that she could stand with little difficulty. He was moving in a circle around her as he worked, regretfully having to leave the little girl's hand behind as he moved away, since he couldn't just take the woman bodily out of the snow. That would produce an unfortunate reaction.

Hearing the woman's weak answer was all Yubie needed to be further convinced that it was time to leave the frozen wastes. The ice was slowly starting to break down even her calm exterior, and she resisted the urge to shiver and complain, for even while Shinrei was normally cold, the inhabitants weren't usually accustomed to the equivalent of rolling around on blocks of ice. She made a motion for the two to follow her, and while she worried that they might not understand the gesture, Yubie figured that she'd be able to hear their movement behind her if they chose to follow. Realizing that it might be awkward for the two to wander into the more populated areas of Shinrei, she made the destination for one of the quieter cities, and called back with a reassuring voice for a way to promise them that everything would be alright if they followed her.

"We'll arrive soon, it's not that far from here. There's good food there, and the people there know me well enough. I would be the first to say that they're some of the most kind and understanding cluster of people I can think of. They're quite resourceful, as they make areas like this quite comfortable for even the most picky of visitors!"

Her voice battled with the winds that began to pick up in speed, but with how her finger pointed at little lights that flickered gently in what was soon becoming a dark sky, the message was likely to be clear enough. Yubie had considered calling in assistance to make the travel easier for the group of three, but she didn't want to scare anyone with the sight of the military, or large transport vehicles. Instead, she simply typed in a small message into the little device on her wrist that informed those watching over the country that the situation on the bear had been handled, and that she was coming to the city with guests that should definitely not be attacked, regardless of how much of a bear one of the guests appeared to be. The two behind her needed time, peace, and patience to cope, not the reaction from startled and nervous people.

Re: A long time in the light [Open]

The downpour of snow was getting harder and harder, and Sena find it difficult to move around, even standing up would be difficult to maintain in this thick cold bed of ice which again she didn't mind or notice. It was also getting colder, but Sena barely noticed the drop in the temperature, not even realizing it was already cold and the suit she's wearing would not suffice to comfort her later on. That was one of the downside of people with Alzheimer's, they tend not to notice or feel some things that could actually cause peril to them. But the bear seemed to be very understanding of the condition and knew better than Sena. He shove the snow out of her. She just repaid the kindness with a blank stare.

Not long after that the three walked through the terribly cold night. Her knees were already shaking, but not a single complaint could be heard from her. In their trip Sena was always steps behind them, as the harsh bite of the snow already sinks in her system. When the young girl said, or Sena thought the young girl said since the voice was faint to her ears, that the inn she was talking about was near, Sena couldn't help but to smile especially upon hearing the word "food". The next few words she didn't pay much attention, as the child's voice wasn't that audible enough.

Few more steps and strides the blonde lady could already see distant faint lights. They must be very near that inn. And that inn must be one of those happy lights which shine like stars in a dark-shut night. She wanted to ask a few questions to the two kind strangers, but was halted as she didn't know how to address them. But then again, she chose to be honest, "I...I w-was a-about t-t-t-to ask some---something, but I d-don't k-know how to call you two. P-please t-t-t-tell me w-w-what people c-ca-call you b-before I for-f-forget what I was a-about to ask," her voice was shivering.

They began to move through the snow slowly , hindered by the girl's short legs and the woman's constant shivering. It was difficult to resist the urge to pick them up and walk faster, given how uncomfortable they were bound to be combined with how hopelessly slow they were moving, but Brutus resisted, continually reminding himself of how unrealistic some people's reactions to safety were. Specifically the sick woman who was hopelessly underprepared for the weather.

After quite a bit of walking, his defenses wearing thin, the town came within a distance visible to his shortsighted eyes. The other two who had been silent for much of the walk -conserving energy- began to speak, the little girl talking about how they were getting close, and the woman stammering about names. It was the stammer that did it, and Brutus moved much quicker than his large frame would indicate he was capable of, forgetting his vow to leave the woman alone, and moved in front of her, bumping her in such a way that she'd fall on to his back and he could speed them up a tad. Or a lot, depending on the girl.

If they didn't cooperate, it would be incredibly irritating, and he;d just pick up the woman and run to the inn, skip all the drama.

Re: A long time in the light [Open]

By now, it was getting too dark for Yubie to consider it safe for most to handle the weather, and while she knew how to survive in such conditions due to the country weather being home to her, she didn't find it even close to pleasant. The woman behind her began to ask for their names, and Yubie wanted to cringe at the shiver the woman's voice had, as she realized she didn't exactly have a pleasant mode of transport available for them without possibly startling Brutus, since the ones that would assist with relocation originally assumed that he was a threat to the civilians. Misunderstandings at this point could prove costly to her new bond with the man, and she didn't want to get anyone hurt.

Turning around, ready to announce that they needed to pick up the pace, and that she may have been able to call a vehicle, she found to her surprise that Brutus had simply solved the problem by picking up the woman and carrying her on his back. At the very least, the woman would stay warm thanks to the fur on the werebear's back and she wouldn't be forced to stumble in the snow, which would make travel a little easier on everyone. She nodded in approval at the two, and approached Brutus quickly so that he could better address the two, again, being noisy about it so that her movement didn't surprise him like it did others in the past.

"My name is Yubie, ma'am. I'm not certain what you meant exactly about forgetting, but you don't have to worry. We must leave this weather soon, I don't take so well to the cold at times. I also ask that neither of you be concerned... I have a spell of sorts that will help me move faster, so we can get out of this weather. I can understand if it'd be less pleasant than normal."

Figuring at this point, speed was more important than caution, at least as far as it went for just the three being involved, Yubie created the trademark arms on her back she so often abused simply for the point of fast travel, gestured for the two to follow once again, and then pushed off the frozen ground into a high speed leap. Running at a steady pace, the girl looked back to see how well Brutus had kept up, hoping that the woman wouldn't panic now that she was on the back of the giant, friendly werebear. For certain, having to tend the woman's frostbite wounds wouldn't be pleasant, especially if they were joined with more bumps on the head from a fall if she managed to push herself off Brutus's back.

Sena was near surrendering to this harsh environment when all of the sudden the bear bumped her. Before she could shriek to express her surprise on the turn of events, she found herself on the bear's back and she clutching on his fur. The warmth brought by the thick fur of the bear-man-bear comforted Sena, but she still couldn't believe she was in such position as she never thought or planned to be that near the bear. Despite the warmth, she just remained in that uncomfortably still position as if it's her body's uncontrollable initial reaction upon getting close to a bear.

The child then introduced herself as Yubie. Hopefully she could remember that. The other things she said just passed by her ear, and all she did was to nod and let the child -- and the bear --- dictate on her fate.

As they approached much closer to the inviting bright lights, so does Sena' recall about that question faded. She was about to ask if they knew any doctor or neurosurgeon around, but that might not be asked until she hopefully recalled it once more.

He walked on at an easy pace, his long jacket sweeping behind him wiping away his trail in the snow. A small pouch rested on his belt, jingling lightly as he went. In the pouch rested the two elongated incisors of a rogue vampire he had been commissioned to track and kill. Usually when he killed a vampire he would bring them back to the town he was paid to hunt them from but this was one of those strange cases, the town was a good ways away due to this young feral vampire running like a beast for his life. Grimm killed him quickly and as painlessly as possible before burying the body to make sure nothing would eat it ad become infected.

The temperature was dropping swiftly as he walked but he felt fine, having to travel to ugly places almost daily helped him grow a thick skin. He was more worried about the drop of the sun over the mountain ridge. He didn't want to be caught out here alone at night, he knew what came out at night and he also knew that the things that went bump didn't care for him too much.

As he walked he heard distant voices, at least two, both feminine in tone. He decided that moving towards them would be in his best interest, strength in numbers ad all that jazz. He was walking almost parallel to the voices so he merely cut through the trees to them, steeping from behind a thick ever green with his hands held up to show he didn't wish to attack, "Howdy all, I heard your voices and..." his voice cut off as he saw what he assumed was a bear but a few tiny details were off about it, the eyes just a bit too human. It was a were creature, he recovered quickly though, ".. I wanted to make myself known, just heading back to the nearest town and I figured I don't want to get caught out here alone. Do you all mind if I follow along?" he asked, his mind at ease with the werebear, it had a woman upon its back and she was riding with ease as if she was okay with it. He had been trained to realize what was hostile and what wasn't when it came to were creatures, or else he could end up killing an innocent life due to ignorance.

Moving into an easy lope now that the woman was relatively well secured on his back, at least not pushing herself off, he followed the little girl that had abruptly grown several more arms and was moving at a far greater clip, now that the wounded woman was taken care of. Their travel was satisfying in its rapidity, and Brutus could revel in the feeling of cold air rippling through waves of long white hair as his loping stride became more and more familiar. He was departing from the lands of the lost, high up in the mountains, and joining civilization. There was a sense of finality in their motions, even as he stretched leg muscles that hadn't been able to move at their fullest extent for months, though he had tried his best with the limited resources he'd had.

While on their run however, he scented an unfamiliar odor, reminiscent of gunpowder mixed with the faintest hint of ozone and some old blood. That same scent of blood had been on the wind on and off for the last several days, but the ozone and powder were new, and the mix wasn't that pleasant since it promised violence. A short while after the scent was first introduced to his nose, there was a motion in the trees and a man stepped out, the source of all three of the uncomfortable odors. Brutus merely looked at the man, giving no indication of how he felt about the question, leaving it to the two who were currently capable of speech to answer while he shifted from foot to foot, plainly anxious to move the very cold woman out of the elements. There was the additional problem of the blood scent the man carried, and if he made any motion towards a weapon, he would quickly find his hand and weapon either inside a large maw, or in a snowbank several feet from the rest of the body.

The woman on Brutus's back didn't fight against the move to help her, which Yubie felt grateful for, as forcing anyone to do anything usually wasn't pleasant, especially if it was just for their own good. The lights grew larger and larger as she moved about, and she found that moving at a faster pace through the snow helped keep her more stable, while an extra arm had been created to shield her face from the downpour so that she would not be blinded by the white ice as it attempted to collect on her face. Now only moments away from the city that had warm buildings and delectable foods, Yubie began to fall into a rapid dash out of eagerness to leave the bitter cold, but she halted suddenly when she heard a voice and noticed that Brutus had stopped, his eyes focused on something behind the tress.

"You have made yourself and your intentions known for now. Due to our situation, I'm afraid I can hardly request more of you, and restricting your permission to follow us does not make much sense to me. You may accompany us for the moment; however, I may have further inquiry as to how you arrived in Shinrei if you wouldn't mind a small discussion."

Unwilling to cause an argument or endure a long conversation on the subject of where all these people were coming from, and why they'd gotten here, Yubie quickly insisted that the other peculiar man follow in the group rather than leaving him behind in the snow. She began to motion with her fifth arm towards the city with a hasty movement, hoping to usher the other man and let him know that this was slowly becoming an urgent situation. In the back of her mind, she wondered how it was that a simple trek to the middle of nowhere would result in her finding more people than would normally be intent on bothering her during a peaceful walk down one of the southern beaches.

"We really should hurry. E-even I don't know how much longer I can take this, and I r-really do not want to be staying for the night."

As they stayed longer out in the cold, her condition just got worse --- not only that her frost bites are being more unbearable, but because it was that same piercing headache attack again...without a warning the sensation of something pounding and mashing her head started, and Sena couldn't scream to let it all out or to just even notify her acquaintances of her situation --- because she was riding on the bear. Aside from stiffening caused by his presence, she witnessed something extraordinary about the little girl that shrieking wasn't a good idea. She didn't want to scare or threaten them both. Biting her lips and letting it all out through her facial expression were her only resort.

Her sight slowly grew blurred, but she had a feeling they are near their destination. Out of nowhere she heard a voice of a man, which halted their travel. She heard him asked for permission to join the "pack", using too much words. With the last bit of sanity and energy she could harness from within her, she weakly and irritatingly spoke, "D-d-do w-w..what you...y-you wa-wa...want! We-we...we're dying..dying...dy-dying h-here! Aaaaargh!"

She released on of her hands' grip from the bear's fur to her head and pulled her hair, hoping hurting herself would bring even a little bit of comfort.
